We’re OH so excited to see you - and we hope your holiday season is ending well! For our FINAL act before we get to the boring parts of the year: are y’all ready for MLK weekend?! Picture this : a three day weekend by the fire, remembering all the greats RIGHT before Black History Month, and best of all : a show right here with Tyrese, Silk, and Brownstone! All here for our Weekend Groove!
Hosted by 105.7 and kept going by fans like me, you and our whole crew - we’re bringing in MLK the R&B groove way, right here in Grand Prairie at Texas Trust! On Saturday January 17th we’re bringing all the soul selectors here for our annual MLK - and now, all we need is you!

Well well well folks, y;all know what they say: EVERYTHING is bigger out here in Texas, and best part of it all: I Can’t Tell You Why, but EVERY time we get here to the CU - we have a good time! So y’all already know we don’t play around about MLK weekend - why would we?! Every year we start your year off right over this way with some comedy, some music, some community, and all the jams in between! So here’s the plan: on Friday we’re getting over the boring week by laughing our way into the Theatre with Deon Cole, but Saturday? Saturday is we groovin! We getting Grown & Sexy step out. ‘Cause Texas Trust CU Theatre is flipping the switch and taking us straight into the smooth, soulful, and downright nostalgic tip - the MLK Smooth Winter Groove is touching down in Grand Prairie on Saturday, January 17th, and we can’t wait to see you!
So - who’s on the list for the night of performers for the weekend?! Headlining will be Tyrese, a now TV and Fast-and-Furious movie star legend, but before then, the maker of “Sweet Lady” and the architect of soul himself. The man who made half the country believe in R&B again in ’98 - and who all your parents played as you were growing up and you were like “who that be?!”. The king of the heartfelt slow burn, he began his come up with singing the iconic Coca-cola commercial back in ‘94 before he was even 18 - and then following up with his early magnum opus: Tyrese. He has skyrocketed into r&b legendary status since then, but his message has always been the same: soul, selection, and stepping.
And with Silk and The Brownstones putting in the work to start the night off right - you’re gonna want to make sure to get here early, and you’re gonna want to make sure to invite your whole crew, too! This is a CELEBRATION of the legacy of Martin Luther King : who’s inspired so many African American artists and performers to be better and get out our message anyway we can. And now - we celebrate that, by dancing and laughing!.
