About The Texas Trust CU Theatre
The Texas Trust CU Theatre is located at 1001 Performance Pl, Grand Prairie, TX 75050-7965, within the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It’s owned by the local city of Grand Prairie and operated by AEG, with a generous capacity of around 6,350.
Outside, the theater is relatively isolated, near a major highway and surrounded by parking lots. While this means there isn’t too much else in the immediate area, it does make arriving, parking, and leaving very simple. There are also many towns and cities within quick driving distance.
Inside, the venue has classic theater-style seating that rises from the stage. It’s perfect for live music, performing acts, and many other shows. Past acts have treated crowds to magic, family shows, Latin music and dancing, and almost everything in between.
Opened in February 2002 as the “NextStage Performance Theater” Texas Trust CU Theatre (formerly known as the Verizon Theatre) was proposed in in 1998 as an alternative to the now demolished Reunion Arena in Dallas.
Known during construction as “Texas ShowPlace”, the theatre was built in order to be a boost to the city of Grand Prairie’s economy, and to draw tourists to the area.
Over the years, it has done exactly that – the building’s comfortable, spacious seating, upscale catering, corporate hospitality areas, elite luxury suites with private entrances, and convenient parking set a new standard in the concert and theatrical touring industry, attracting the attention of such huge touring acts as: Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony, Janet Jackson, Phish, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Toni Braxton, Jennifer Hudson, Paramore, Kylie Minogue, David Gray, Ben Folds Five, Barenaked Ladies, Jimmy Eat World, Roger Daltrey, Bob Dylan, The Black Crowes, Van Morrison, Robert Plant, Stevie Nicks, The Smashing Pumpkins and ZZ Top!
The Texas Trust CU Theatre history
Planning for a performing arts venue began in 1998 when the city of Dallas had to replace the retired Reunion Arena. The site at Grand Prairie was chosen for its excellent transport links, and construction began in 1999.
Due to budget concerns, the building phase took a little longer than planned. However, the venue eventually opened in 2002 as the NextStage Performance Theater. It immediately attracted top musical and theatrical shows to the area.
Over the years, the venue has held many names due to corporate sponsorships. These included Nokia Live (2004-2010) and Verizon Theatre (2010-2018). In 2018, it became known as The Theatre at Grand Prairie before Texas Trust Credit Union gave the venue its current name in 2021.
Since opening, the venue has hosted Broadway productions, family shows, and musical acts, including performances such as: Sesame Street Live, The Scorpions, Fifth Harmony, The Killers, Paramore, Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, Michael Bublé, Alicia Keys, Kylie Minogue, Alanis Morissette, Roger Daltrey, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Duran Duran, Coldplay, Robert Plant & Stevie Nicks.
