Styx is a Chicago-based progressive rock band that emerged in 1972. Since the release of their self-titled debut album, the band has dropped a studio effort every year during the ‘70s. In 1977, they released their seventh album, The Grand Illusion, which helped them achieve commercial success. The album peaked at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and spawned the Top 10 hit “Come Sail Away.” During the ‘80s, the band rose to prominence with the album Paradise Theatre, which topped the Billboard 200 and the Canadian chart. The album was preceded by the number 1 hits “The Best of Times” and “Too Much Time On My Hands.” In 1983, Styx dropped the massive hit single, “Mr. Roboto,” spawned by the album Kilroy Was Here, reaching the top 3 in the U.S. and Scandinavia.

Styx has released 18 albums throughout their five-decade career and sold over 18 million copies worldwide. Their best-selling album Paradise Theatre, released in 1981, sold more than three million copies. The album peaked and stayed at number 1 for three weeks upon its release. In 2022, Styx dropped their latest album, Crash of the Crown. Guitarist Tommy Shaw explained that the band did everything they could to release their latest work, despite being recorded at the height of the pandemic. “Absolutely no obstacles were going to get in the way of how we approached creating this album,” singer/guitarist Tommy Shaw concludes about the herculean recording efforts of his fellow COTC makers. “And everything came out exactly the way we wanted to hear it.”
